Why We Package All Of Our Products in Opaque Glass Bottles
At Oil Divine, we take great care and pride in each step of producing our product - from sourcing, and formulating, to packaging. Our Clean Commitment applies to all aspects of our brand and products. Not only are the magical and potent oils in each Oil Divine product all natural and organic. Our products are also housed in premium yet highly sustainable packaging.
We have received many compliments on our signature frosted glass packaging and the gold-toned accents, but did you know that we chose the design and material very carefully? Taking into consideration more than just aesthetics.
Mass market brands have no concept of synergy between the product ingredients and packaging - with the formulations by a chemist and a separate department that decides on the packaging. The focus tends to be making products aesthetically appealing and spending on marketing and advertising.
Many companies have no concept of the ingredients and products that they are actually selling, and there is a gap between the person making them, often a laboratory or chemist, and the person who decides the packaging. Not knowing that not choosing the proper packaging clearly shows the level of care, intent, and wisdom behind the brand. Clean beauty goes way beyond the formulation of products.
All of our products are bottled in infinitely recyclable glass that is matte/opaque in color to preserve the integrity and quality of our divine formulations. As some of you know, essential oils and active ingredients in skincare products are best kept in tinted glass bottles and airtight. The reason behind it is to prevent the ingredients from eating away at the plastic and limit sun exposure to avoid degradation and oxidation.
The Problem with Plastics
Plastic packaging for beauty products usually contains hormone-disrupting chemicals: polyvinyl chloride plastics (PVC), PETE, or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which contains phthalates and bisphenol-A (BPA). BPA has been linked to human breast cancer cell growth, while phthalates have been linked to liver damage and reproductive issues and are potentially toxic to the fetus. Even plastic does not contain BPA, it still releases estrogenic chemicals called xenoestrogen, which mimics the effect of estrogen, and it is stored in our fat cells and accumulates over time.
Xenoestrogen build-up complicates numerous unpleasant symptoms such as mood swings, decreased libido, potential weight gain, hormonal imbalance, and even skin issues. It is also complicit in multiple health issues such as the increased risk of breast, prostate, and testicular cancer, obesity, infertility, endometriosis, early onset puberty, miscarriages, and compromised thyroid functions.
Why Frosted Glass
Oil Divine's commitment to non-toxic products and eco-conscious is more than just claims. We decided on our signature frosted glass bottles to house our formulations considering the links between the chemicals found in plastic packaging and health issues. Dark Spot Corrector, Age-Delay Lifting Serum, Revitalizing Body Oil, and all of our products are packaged in glass because they contain natural fruit and plant oils rich in amino acids and other natural acids. Plastic-free prevents them from eating away and absorbing the toxic chemicals in it.
Another reason why we chose the frosted glass? It protects the products from light degradation and thus increases the shelf life without any harsh preservatives. Other brands are using dark / amber-hued glasses to do the same; we did not want to compromise on the aesthetics of our glass bottles and arrived at the frosted glass material.
Our products last up to one year after opening, but you will surely use every last drop well before then. Once open, it is essential to keep your products tightly closed in between use, away from direct sunlight, and stored in a cool, dry place.
The takeaway - knowing that our skin is the largest organ and what we put on it ends up in our bloodstream, it is essential to be mindful of what we use daily - especially the self-care products we apply to skin, hair, and body day after day.
